Building Service User Capacity in the community

About Us

The Recovery Support Service (Janus Solutions) manages and facilitates Southwark Substance Use Peer Mentoring Service. The Peer Mentor role has been created to support people in Southwark who want to access substance use treatment or who are in treatment and need extra support to help their personal recovery journey.

What is Peer Mentoring?

Peer Mentoring is a support service which is a form of peer support that involves people who are in recovery from substance use whom help others who are having difficulties and who struggle with similar issues.

Peer mentors use their personal experience and knowledge to guide, motivate, and empower their mentees to overcome challenges related to substance use and achieve their goals.

Peer mentoring can also help people access other services, such as education, training, volunteering, and employment, that can improve their quality of life and well-being. Peer mentoring can be offered in various settings, such as treatment centres and recovery communities. Peer mentoring has been shown to have positive outcomes for both the mentors and the mentees, such as increased self-esteem, reduced relapse, enhanced social support, and greater satisfaction. Peer mentoring is a valuable and effective way of supporting people in recovery from substance misuse.
